The work spreads outwards. Even the recent scroll form, which often assumes a monumental dimension, articulates a state not of furling but of unfurling, swallowing up the space outside. To this space Isham gives her own energy, accumulated in the "psyche of painting" (Malevich's excellent expression). As a result, a new kind of contact with the viewer appears. The viewer now senses on both the intellectual and the tactile levels, a density and a content to the energy fields that arise around Isham's painted objects. - Alexander Borovsky Professor / Curator at Russian State Museum |
