It was precisely this independent encounter with Russian realities that helped Isham understand the great Russian avant-garde masters - Kandinsky, Malevich, Chagall - with a profundity that was not purely theoretical, but existential and metaphysical. These masters were to play a definite role in the evolution of her art.
