...the atmosphere of the paintings is calmness based on the Oriental view of Nature and femininely delicate adornment. Sheila, who learned calligraphy genuinely in China, show quite adventurous attempts such as using the form of Chinese letters into her paintings with an excellent brush-work more than Japanese do and pasting pieces of rice paper on the canvas. Her paintings as such create a generous world full of Japanese tone, some expressing simplicity and some creating delicate, ornamental beauty.

One characteristic of Chinese calligraphy is its tendency to reflect nature. Sheila's work has the same tendency, and the swift and free strokes in her brushwork share the dynamic spirit of calligraphy.
